Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon visits Spire Storage West

Earlier this month, Gov. Gordon and members of his staff toured the Spire Storage West facility in Southwest Wyoming. During the visit, he had the opportunity to learn about the facility’s role in helping advance Wyoming as an energy leader and how it supports energy infrastructure across the Western U.S.

The visit included an overview of the nearly completed Clear Creek expansion project, which will increase authorized working gas capacity to 55 Bcf to better meet rising demand for natural gas storage.

The governor’s visit and tour of Spire Storage follows several other visits from prominent elected officials, including U.S. Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Wyoming Sen. Wendy Schuler, Wyoming Reps. John Conrad and Ryan Berger, Uinta County Commission Chairman and Commissioners, staffers from the U.S. Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee, as well as the group of bipartisan Congressional Staffers who visited the facilities this summer.

Spire Midstream President shares perspective with LDC Gas Forums

Scott Smith emphasizes the importance of natural gas infrastructure investments to help balance the U.S. energy grid and rising energy demand – including how the Spire Storage West expansion in Wyoming is helping to support energy reliability.

The post highlights how supply reliability is challenged by pipeline and storage infrastructure gaps, especially during peak demand periods or extreme weather events.

American Gas Association, Prices Steady, Natural Gas Supply Strong According to AGA’s Winter Heating Outlook
The American Gas Association's annual Winter Heating Outlook reports industrial growth and rising electric power requirements are driving increased demand for natural gas. The natural gas market, which reached record highs in both production and consumption in 2023, remains well-supplied.

S&P Global, Data Centers: More Gas Will Be Needed To Feed U.S. Growth
Growing demand for U.S. data centers, coupled with the intermittent nature of renewables, is driving increased need for natural gas.

U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), U.S. natural gas-fired electricity generation set new daily records in summer 2024
EIA reported nine of the 10 highest U.S. natural gas-fired electricity generation days on record occurred this past summer, with six in August. The increase was driven by hotter weather, low natural gas prices and greater generating capacity, with natural gas providing 45% of summer power generation, up from 29% in 2014.

Spire and BRORA team up for trail improvements

Spire recently partnered with nonprofit Bear River Outdoor Recreation Alliance (BRORA) to enhance the Owls Roost Trail in Bear River State Park in Evanston, Wyoming, which had been damaged by erosion. Spire employees volunteered for a trail maintenance day, helping build a new bridge and repair washed-out sections.

Spire also provided a $5,000 grant to BRORA, which will help fund trail improvements, including new signage to improve user experience and equipment to facilitate more extensive trail work. This trail improvement project was part of Spire’s Day for Good volunteer initiative, which provides each Spire employee with eight hours of paid time off to volunteer for a cause they care about.
