How Spire supports Mobile youth

It’s been said that success is when preparation meets opportunity. And when young people learn new skills to better prepare for the future – and have opportunities to succeed and achieve, it can be lifechanging. That’s exactly the focus of Junior Achievement

And at Spire, we strive to create opportunities across the communities we serve through workforce, economic development and entrepreneurship programs, as well as through community and board service. That’s part of what helps our partnership with the Junior Achievement organization flourish.

For more than 20 years, the local Spire team in the Mobile, Ala., area has supported Junior Achievement’s mission of providing lessons in financial literacy, work and career readiness, and entrepreneurship.

Programs are also tailored to age-appropriate needs, offering courses for elementary, middle and high school students to meet students where they are.

According to Junior Achievement’s 2022 Alumni Survey report, Junior Achievement Alumni are more likely to have a college degree, feel confident managing money, have career success and have started a business as an adult.

Spire regional manager Sharon Moffatt has been affiliated with Junior Achievement for 8 years, starting as a volunteer and serving on their local board of directors for the past four years.

“It’s so important for Spire to support an organization like Junior Achievement because it develops children and young adults. It benefits the entire community to make sure young people know how to manage money, maintain good credit and establish a business,” said Sharon.

An event that’s right up our alley

Spire employees recently dedicated their “spare” time participating in the annual Junior Achievement Bowling Classic.

Not only is the Bowling Classic a way for the community to connect and have fun with one another, it’s also Junior Achievement’s single largest fundraiser of the year.  The teams representing Spire Gulf raised more than $3,400 that will go to benefit Junior Achievement events in local schools.
