Spire Storage Salt Plains sets new record

Spire Storage Salt Plains

This past winter, Spire Storage Salt Plains achieved a record cumulative withdrawal of 10.4 Bcf – the highest in the facility’s 30-year history. This reinforces our commitment to delivering reliable natural gas storage solutions. Spire Midstream acquired the Salt Plains facility in Grant County, Oklahoma, in April 2023, and this milestone highlights the strength of our infrastructure and our ability to meet customer demand when it matters most. We remain focused on providing dependable natural gas storage for the Mid-continent U.S.

Spire Storage West reaches substantial completion

Spire Storage Clear Creek

Spire Midstream is pleased to share that we have reached substantial completion and placed facilities in service for the expansion of our Clear Creek facility at Spire Storage West in Evanston, Wyoming.

The project was one of the first FERC-approved natural gas storage expansion projects in more than a decade when it was approved in 2022. With increased capacity, the expanded facility is in an even better position to continue serving as critical natural gas infrastructure for the Western U.S.
Spire Storage West connects to five of the natural gas pipelines serving the Western U.S. - Kern River Gas Transmission, Ruby Pipeline Mountain, West Pipeline, MountainWest Overthrust Pipeline and Northwest Pipeline. In addition, Spire Storage West is located in close proximity to the Opal Hub, a major gas trading hub.

What we’re reading

American Gas Association, Natural Gas More Vital Now Than Ever Before
The American Gas Association’s 2025 Playbook highlights natural gas’ essential role in U.S. energy security, economic growth and emissions reductions. More than 189 million Americans and 5.8 million businesses use natural gas because it is affordable and reliable. The industry continues to invest in innovations like renewable natural gas and hydrogen to support a more efficient and secure energy future.

U.S. Energy Information Administration, Short-Term Energy Outlook
Cold weather in early 2025 led to more consumption of natural gas and large withdrawals of natural gas from inventories. Natural gas inventories are forecasted to be 10 percent below the five-year average by the end of March. Rising electricity demand is also driving higher natural gas use, with the power sector set to consume over 36 billion cubic feet per day on average in 2025 and 2026. As a result, lower-than-expected storage levels are tightening the supply outlook through 2026.

Let’s connect
