On 811 Day, local news stations remind communities to 'Call Before You Dig'

August 11 is 811 Day—an annual initiative to help remind our communities to dig safely. While we at Spire are familiar with the importance of safe digging, it's an important time of year to make sure our communities understand as well.

Spire has been hard at work making sure friends and neighbors know the importance of calling 811 before doing any project that involves digging, such as planting a tree, building a deck or installing a mailbox.

To promote safe digging, we reached out to local news stations across the Spire service area to help get the word out.

KTVI-TV (Fox 2, St. Louis)
Reporter Tim Ezell joined Spire Manager of Damage Prevention Alan Meyer in the field this morning, donning a hard hat and safety vest while he tried his hand at digging up a gas line that was safely identified using locator equipment.

WDAF-TV (Fox 4, Kansas City)
Damage Prevention Specialist Tim O’Brien joined WDAF's morning show to discuss the importance of safe digging.

WSFA-TV (NBC 12, Montgomery)
Spire hit TV screens in Montgomery as well. Bob Gardner, director of compliance and pipeline integrity, spoke with WSFA during their 11 a.m. newscast about calling 8-1-1 before you dig.
