Safe grilling reminders

July is National Grilling Month, making it a great time to brush up on your safe grilling skills. Before your next cookout, check out these safety reminders from Spire grill expert and service supervisor Clarence Murry.
- Check for gas leaks: Before using your gas grill, check for leaks by applying a soapy water solution to the connections. If bubbles appear, a leak may be present. Additionally, always trust your sense of smell. If you smell a rotten egg odor, stop and call Spire's 24/7 emergency line or 911.
- Clean the grates: Remove grease and residue from the grates before and after each use to prevent fires and improve the flavor of your food.
- Open the lid before turning on the grill: This prevents gas from accumulating inside your grill, which could cause a flare-up.
- Stay close: Never leave your grill unattended while it's in use and keep a fire extinguisher handy in case of an emergency.
- Don't forget to shut off the gas: When you're finished grilling, turn off the burners and the gas supply before walking away.
