Part of providing safe, reliable natural gas is taking care of the equipment that connects us to your home or business. That's why we do regular inspections of indoor natural gas equipment when meters are located inside a property.

These inspections are called Atmospheric Corrosion Inspections, or ACI. At glance, here's what you need to know about ACI.

  • Fast. Inspections typically take 10 minutes or so
  • Free. These inspections come at no cost to you
  • Required. We're required by law to complete these inspections every three years

ACI identify potential leaks, ensure metering equipment is functioning properly and that service connections are secure. They also help prevent risks to the health and well-being of our families and community. If you're due for an inspection, you can schedule your appointment online through My Account or by calling 844-644-3634.

In between inspections, be sure to keep these safety tips in mind.

  • Pipe corrosion can be hazardous as it can cause natural gas leaks in your home. Monitoring the pipes in and around your home for rust is a great way to prevent leaks from occurring
  • Although leaks are rare – you can rely on your sight, smell, and hearing to detect a leak in your home. Due to the Mercaptan we add to the natural gas, you’ll smell rotten eggs – indicating the risk of a potential leak
  • In the case of a leak, leave the property immediately and report the leak to Spire
  • If you don’t report the leak – gas could collect and build up in your home, causing the risk of fire if sparks are in the room and could cause breathing problems due to the removal of oxygen
